Artificial Flower Stems for Paper Flowers

Mia's artificial flower stems are easy to make and look great with our paper flowers.

Of course you could use pipe cleaners, green garden wire or buy green covered florist wire all of these options are fairly cheap and will save you time if you are making lots of flowers.

Our artificial flower stems do give you another option though with greater flexibility. You can make leaves and sepals in the same color tissue paper and you can decide on the length and thickness of the stem.

Difficulty – Easy Adult supervision – Will be needed for young children as the wire can be quite dangerous.

Materials and Equipment

• Tissue paper
• Wire
• Double sided sticky tape
• Scissors

Mia’s Top Tip

If you use standard width 2.5cm (1") double-sided sticky tape you can get 4 strips out of one length of tape.

Your Free Paper Craft Instructions

	Lay one sheet of tissue paper on to a flat surface. Stick the double-sided sticky tape along one edge. Don't remove the backing from the tape yet.
	Cut the tape and tissue paper into thin strips approx 1/2cm or 1/4" wide and as long as the paper allows. Keep the backing paper in place for now.
	Cut your wire to the required length for you flower stem. Peel away a little of the backing paper an place the wire on to sticky side of the tissue paper strip. Leave approx 1/2cm (1/4") of sticky tissue paper above the wire.
	Fold the sticky paper over the end of the wire.
	Start to wrap the paper around the wire, removing the backing as you go. Take care that the wire is completely covered.
	Continue along the length of the wire. If you run out of paper just use another strip as the joins won't be seen.
	Continue until all the wire is covered. Finish by wrapping the sticky paper over the end of the wire. Cut the paper and make sure the end is firmly stuck down.
