Drinking Straw Crafts

Mia's drinking straw crafts will show you how to make a gorgeous bracelet. All you need are drinking straws and pipe cleaners. The drinking straws can be purchased from most supermarkets in a range of great colors. You will need the thin plastic disposable straws for this project.

Pipe cleaners can be bought in a range of bright colors now and are sold in most craft shops. They may be called chenille stems or something similar but they are all the same product.

This is just one of our fun kids crafts that will keep them busy for a while. I have a whole range of these easy crafts to make which I will add to regularly.

Very young children may need some help.

Pipe cleaners are made from wire which can be sharp. Help may be needed to cut up the straws.

Materials and Equipment

  • Drinking straws cut into small beads
  • Pipe cleaner

Mia’s Top Tip

The wire of the pipe cleaner will hold it's shape once wrapped around the wrist and shouldn't fall off.

It helps to get someone else to wrap it around your wrist to get it to fit nicely.

Drinking Straw Crafts Instructions

Cut the drinking straws up into small tubes.

These will be the beads for your bracelet.

Bend the pipe cleaner as shown in the diagram.

I have added the black line to make it clear.

This should stop the drinking straw beads from falling of the end.

Thread the drinking straw beads onto the pipe cleaner leaving about 1cm (1/2") of pipe cleaner at the end.

Bend the end as shown in the diagram to stop your beads from falling off.

Bend the pipe cleaner into a circular shape so that it will wrap around your wrist

Mia’s Craft Ideas

Try cutting your straws into different size pieces, really small beads will look a lot different to large chunky ones.

Make several different bracelets using different colored pipe cleaners and wear them all together.
