Printing the Template

Most printers will allow you to print directly on to thin card. If you are using patterned card make sure that you print on the plain side. If your printer will only allow you to print on paper then there are a couple of different ways to transfer the template to card.

One way is to glue the paper template to the card you can use any type of glue suitable for paper. Spread the glue thinly across the card then lower the paper on top. Smooth out carefully removing any air bubbles. Make sure the glue is completely dry before cutting.

Another way is to secure the paper to the card with tape, using a pencil and ruler, go over the lines on the template. Press hard enough to mark the card but not so hard you make holes in the paper.

Mia’s Top Tip

If you have a strong pattern on your card then cut out a piece of plain paper or thin card slightly smaller than your gift tag and stick it in the center on one side of your gift tag allowing for the hole. homemade gift tags 02

Make Your Own Gift Tags

homemade gift tags 01If you are using thin card you can double it up. This is also a good idea if using old greeting cards or other card with writing on one side. Cut out two shapes and glue them together with the pattern on the outside.Using a hole punch make one hole in your gift tag. You can use wool, embroidery thread, ribbon or even string to thread through the hole.
