Materials and Equipment

  • Yarn, string or fabric to braid
  • Hook or door handle to hang braid
  • Scissors

Mia’s Top Tip

Getting a neat finish to your braid can be quite tricky. You need to get the tension right.

The tension depends on how tight or loose you pull the yarn when making your braid.

If you pull the yarn too tight the braid will buckle up and won't lay flat. If the yarn is too loose your braid will have big gaps in it.

Try to keep the tension consistent as you work, the more you practice the easier it becomes.

Take your 3 different colored ribbons and lay them out straight in front of you.

Pin them together using a safety pin.

If you are using yarn or string you may want to knot them together before pinning them.

Hang the pin over a hook or nail.
