Printable Advent Calendar Template

Download the template below by clicking on the thumbnail. All my templates are PDF files as they are easy to use and print.

You will need acrobat reader installed on your computer to view and print these templates. You can download it for free by clicking on the adobe reader button on the right.

Printing the Template

Most printers will allow you to print directly on to thin card. If you are using patterned card make sure that you print on the plain side. If your printer will only allow you to print on paper then there are a couple of different ways to transfer the template to card.

One way is to glue the paper template to the card you can use any type of glue suitable for paper. Spread the glue thinly across the card then lower the paper on top. Smooth out carefully removing any air bubbles. Make sure the glue is completely dry before cutting.

The other way will only work if you are printing a template that is easy to reproduce. Secure the paper to the card with tape, using a pencil and ruler if drawing straight lines, go over the lines on the template. Press hard enough to mark the card but not so hard you make holes in the paper.

Mia's Top Tip

When sticking the two templates together make sure that the glue does not stick the door closed.

If a young child will be opening the doors you may want to bend the doors open then close them again before sticking the two templates together, the doors will be slightly open, making it easier for little fingers.

If the doors are a bit difficult to open try bending the calendar a little so the door pops open.

Using template 1 cut along the dotted lines on the three sides of each door.

If necessary you can open the doors and crease them, then close then again.

This will make it easier for your child to open the doors.

With template 2 apply double-sided sticky tape or glue along the dotted lines at the top and the bottom of the calendar and along both sides.

Take care not to get glue too close to the images.

Position template 1 directly over template 2 and press down along the edges.

The doors should line up neatly with the images.

The calendar can be finished in two different ways depending on your preference.

If you would prefer to have a smaller calendar with just the tree then follow the instructions here.
if you would prefer to hang the calendar go to step 6.

Trim the calendar down and remove the copyright information at the bottom and the Merry Christmas at the top.

The calendar can now be stuck to a wall or door using blue tac or left free standing.

If you want to hang your calendar then leave the Merry Christmas at the top.

Use a hole punch to make single holes above each of the stars.

Thread a piece of ribbon through the holes so the ends are both at the back of the calendar.

Tie the two ends together and your calendar is ready to hang up.

Mia’s Craft Ideas

Once all the doors have been opened on the calendar you can use the 24 images to make a great Christmas game.

You can use the images template to make the game even if you are not going to make the calendar.

You will need to print out 2 copies of the 24 images, you can use one of my decorative printer papers for the other side or you can leave it blank.

The game can be played with one or more players.

If you are playing alone then you can time yourself to see how long it takes to find all the pairs.

If there is more than one person playing the winner is the one with the most pairs at the end of the game.

Cut out all the images on both templates along the black lines.
Lay out all 48 images face down and mix them up.
Take it in turns to turn up 2 cards.
If you turn over a pair you get to keep those and have another turn.
If you don't turn over a pair you should turn the cards back over leaving them where they are and the next player gets a turn.
