A gorgeous hanging heart for you to make for someone special. Would make a great gift for Mother's day or for your someone special this Valentine's day.
It's easy to make with my template and step by step tutorial.
Young children may need some help wrapping the paper as it tears easily while wet.
I've used pink construction/sugar paper as it matched the color scheme I wanted but you can use any color paper.
You can use newspaper and paint it once dry.
I have used construction paper also known as sugar paper for this tutorial.
You can use other types of paper even newspaper to make this heart.
Be careful if using tissue or crepe paper as the color can run when it gets wet.
Check for color fastness before using.
Most printers will allow you to print directly on to thin card. If you are using patterned card make sure that you print on the plain side. If your printer will only allow you to print on paper then there are a couple of different ways to transfer the template to card.
One way is to glue the paper template to the card you can use any type of glue suitable for paper. Spread the glue thinly across the card then lower the paper on top. Smooth out carefully removing any air bubbles. Make sure the glue is completely dry before cutting.
The other way will only work if you are printing a template that is easy to reproduce. Secure the paper to the card with tape, using a pencil and
ruler if drawing straight lines, go over the lines on the template. Press hard enough to mark the
card but not so hard you make holes in the paper.
Print out the template onto thin card and cut out the outer heart, it's the only one we'll need for this tutorial.
To cut around the inner line, make a hole in the card with the scissors to access it.
Place your cut out heart onto a thick piece of card, corrugated card is great as it's quite sturdy.
Fix in place with some double sided sticky tape.
Cut around the outside of the heart and again make a hole in the center so you can cut out the inner piece as well.
Your heart should now look like the image here.
Tear the edges of your paper so there are no straight cut edges anywhere.
Construction/sugar paper doesn't have a grain so it's easy to tear in both directions.
If you are using other types of paper then it can be difficult tearing across the grain.
Try using a ruler to tear against as this can often make it easier.
Tear the paper it to wide strips as shown in the image.
This was an A4 size sheet of paper which I tore lengthways into three strips.
If the paper is not too thick you can tear several sheets at once.
