Homemade gift tags are a great way to make your presents extra special. These printable templates will give you some ideas for shapes to get
All of the shapes are a standard size but you can easily make them larger or smaller to match your gift.
Do you have lots of scrap materials that you can't bear to throw away?
You can use those scraps of ribbon, card and paper to make your own handmade gift tags.
For an instant result print out one of the templates then choose one of our decorative printer papers for the other side. Once both sides have been printed on thin card you can cut them out giving you quick and easy gift tags.
If you have a strong pattern on your card then cut out a piece of plain paper or thin card slightly smaller than your gift tag.
Stick the plain paper or card in the center on one side of your gift tag allowing for the hole.
The plain paper will make sure any writing show up.
This might be necessary if your card has a strong or dark pattern.
If you are using thin card you can double it up. This is also a good idea if using old greeting cards or other card with writing on one side.
Cut out two shapes and glue them together with the pattern on the outside. Using a hole punch make a hole in one corner. You can use wool, embroidery thread, ribbon or even string to thread through the hole.
Most printers will allow you to print directly on to thin card. If you are using patterned card make sure that you print on the plain side. If your printer will only allow you to print on paper then there are a couple of different ways to transfer the template to card.
One way is to glue the paper template to the card you can use any type of glue suitable for paper. Spread the glue thinly across the card then lower the paper on top. Smooth out carefully removing any air bubbles. Make sure the glue is completely dry before cutting.
The other way will only work if you are printing a template that is easy to reproduce. Secure the paper to the card with tape, using a pencil and
ruler if drawing straight lines, go over the lines on the template. Press hard enough to mark the
card but not so hard you make holes in the paper.
Print out the template on thin card. Cut out the shapes and decorate them. You can use scraps of card, paper, ribbon, lace or wool to decorate your homemade gift tags.
Though don't stop there you can paint them, draw pictures or cut out pictures from magazines. You can use glitter or sequins, card toppers or pressed flowers. Phew, I could go on and on but I'm sure you get the idea.
The gift tags can also be made from scraps of card, old celebration cards or postcards. Use a hole punch to make a hole to thread ribbon or string though to attach to the gift.
Make your tags to reflect the gift you have given, if your gift is something for the garden then you could make a flower gift tag.
Make your own gift tags to match your handmade greeting card.
Cut around the picture on old greeting cards, make a hole in the top for an instant gift tag.
