If your child can plait they should need very little supervision if the threads are cut to the required length before they start.
You can get a great effect using different colored embroidery threads or ribbons.
The length of string required should be at least twice as long as the wrist measurement.
It will also depend on the thickness of the material, the thicker the string, the longer the length of the string required.
Tie a knot near to one end of your pieces of string.
Attach the strings to something so you can braid it easily.
Braid the strings until you reach the end of the string.
Leave enough string not plaited so you can knot the end.
Tie a knot in the end to stop the plait coming unraveled.
Trim both ends
Knot the ends together, it is a good idea to get someone to help you do this once it's on your wrist.
Once you have finished the bracelet you can fray the ends of the string to create a tassel effect.
Do not tie to tightly around the wrist as you want the child to be able to slip it off.
The knot will not be easy to undo once it's been worn for a while.
Try adding beads or small buttons to the string while plaiting. Use your imagination and create your own designs.
